Seven free chilled water dispensers have been activated (from 16 October) at Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport. The units have been installed throughout the passenger terminal, both before and after security checks. Four dispensers located airside allow passengers to refill bottles and reusable flasks.

Airside locations (bottle and flask refill available):
third level – boarding gate A19
second level – in front of gates B5/B6
extra-Schengen departure lounge
baggage reclaim area

Landside locations (drinking fountains):
Near check-in area A, third level
Area before security checks – near restrooms/pharmacy
Arrivals level – elevator area

“When we think about the future of transport, and aviation in particular, there is one key word: sustainability. Not simply as a goal, but as a strategic pillar guiding every decision, innovation and travel experience,” says Gianfranco Battisti, CEO of GESAP, the company managing the Palermo airport.

“At Palermo Falcone Borsellino International Airport we chose to turn this vision into concrete actions. In a very short time we installed seven chilled water dispensers across the terminal, becoming one of the few Italian airports to offer free drinking water to passengers after security checks.”

According to Battisti, the initiative is “a gesture that represents much more than it may seem: reducing environmental impact, encouraging responsible behaviour and improving the passenger experience. Today Palermo Airport is cited by leading national newspapers as a virtuous example of this new airport culture, supported by Assaeroporti, looking ahead to the future of the sector.”

“A recognition,” concludes the GESAP CEO, “that encourages us to continue on this path, with the conviction that an airport can be both an economic driver and an environmental model.”
